Standard Giveaway Rules

(Applies to all giveaways run by This Week in Van, a DBA of Catalog Media Holdings)

Eligibility

Contests are open to residents of Canada. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older, or have a parent or legal guardian complete the winner‑verification process and accept the prize on their behalf. Employees, contractors, and representatives of Catalog Media Holdings (including its DBA This Week in Van) are not eligible.

How to Enter

The entry method for each Contest will be described in the Contest Post. Common entry methods include actions such as liking a post or tagging a friend. No purchase is necessary to enter any Contest. Entries that do not follow the instructions in the Contest Post are void.

Contest Period

The start and end dates for each Contest will be stated in the Contest Post. Entries submitted outside the stated Contest Period will not be accepted. When a Contest Post refers to “dates listed in the caption,” those dates govern the Contest Period.

Prize

The prize for each Contest will be described in the Contest Post, including the number of prizes available and the approximate retail value. Prizes must be accepted as awarded and cannot be transferred, substituted, or redeemed for cash.

Winner Selection

Unless otherwise stated in the Contest Post, winners will be selected at random from all eligible entries received during the Contest Period. The draw will occur within 72 hours of the Contest closing.

The selected entrant will be contacted through the platform where the Contest was held (e.g., Instagram direct message). To be confirmed as the winner, the selected entrant (or their parent/guardian if under 18) must:

  • Complete a winner‑verification form

  • Correctly answer a mathematical skill‑testing question

  • Confirm eligibility

  • Accept the prize

If the selected entrant does not complete these steps within 72 hours, they may be disqualified and an alternate entrant may be selected.

Skill‑Testing Question

As required by Canadian law, the selected entrant must correctly answer a mathematical skill‑testing question without assistance to be declared the winner.

Privacy

Personal information collected during a Contest will be used only to verify eligibility, administer the Contest, and deliver the prize. Non‑winning entry data will be deleted after the Contest closes. Minimal records required to demonstrate that the Contest was administered fairly (such as the winner’s name, province, and confirmation of the skill‑testing question) will be retained temporarily for audit purposes and then securely deleted.

General Conditions

By participating, entrants agree to abide by these Standard Rules and any additional rules stated in the Contest Post. Catalog Media Holdings, operating as This Week in Van, may cancel, modify, or suspend a Contest if fraud, technical issues, or other factors compromise its integrity. The company is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, or incomplete entries.

Contests run on Instagram are in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram. By entering, participants release Instagram from any responsibility related to the Contest.
